Job Title: Phlebotomist / Laboratory Assistant
Job Summary: We are seeking a precise and reliable Phlebotomist / Laboratory Assistant to join our clinical laboratory team. In this role, you will collect and prepare quality blood samples for diagnostic testing, enter specimen data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and assist Medical Laboratory Scientists and Pathologists with lab operations while maintaining strict quality control and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specimen Collection & Handling: Perform venipuncture and skin punctures (capillary draws) using proper techniques. Verify patient identification, accurately label specimen vials, and cross-reference lab requisition forms.
- Laboratory Data Entry: Enter patient demographic, specimen, and order information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) efficiently and accurately.
- Biohazard Safety & Disposal: Safely dispose of contaminated needles, blood samples, and biohazardous waste strictly following safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Supply & Equipment Maintenance: Prepare and organize blood-drawing trays with sterile, single-use supplies. Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and preserving quality control records.
- Infection Control: Maintain a safe, clean workplace by adhering strictly to infection control, hazardous materials, and universal precautions guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Clinical Experience: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated laboratory specimen collection and handling experience [Required].
- Certifications:
- Active ASCP Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification [Required].
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross [Required].
- Core Competencies: Strong venipuncture technique, meticulous specimen identification and labeling, basic computer data entry, and adherence to laboratory quality control guidelines.
