Hours & Guarantee: 8 Hours/Day | 40 Hours/Week Guaranteed | Shift: 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM (Afternoons).
Weekend & Call Requirements: No weekends required | No on-call coverage.
Position Overview & Clinical Scope:
A regional healthcare facility in northern Michigan is seeking a Temporary Phlebotomist for afternoon coverage. The Phlebotomist is responsible for providing compassionate patient care while performing high-quality blood draws and specimen collection to support diagnostic testing and clinical decision-making.
Essential Duties & Percent Allocation:
- Venipuncture & Specimen Collection (20%): Properly draw blood with minimal patient discomfort, demonstrating high accuracy and proficiency in vein access across diverse patient populations.
- Patient Identification & Computer Entry (15%): Ensure positive patient identification and specimen labeling strictly adhering to facility protocols; register and accession specimens into the computer system.
- Laboratory Knowledge & Specimen Handling (15%): Maintain deep knowledge of specialized needles, anticoagulants, specimen handling requirements, and preparation procedures for various diagnostic tests.
- Administrative & Telephone Support (15%): Answer incoming telephone inquiries and route them promptly to the appropriate clinical personnel.
- Customer Service & Professional Greeting (10%): Professionally and cheerfully greet patients, visitors, and facility staff.
- Supply Inventory & Processing Support (10%): Assist with laboratory supply inventory restocking (5%) and routine specimen processing tasks (5%).
- Miscellaneous Support (15%): Perform other related clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
Submission & Qualification Requirements:
Experience & Certifications:
- Phlebotomy Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of recent, active phlebotomy experience [REQUIRED].
- Phlebotomy Certification: Active Phlebotomy Certification [REQUIRED].
- Patient Population Competency: Proven ability to perform phlebotomy across all age demographics: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric [REQUIRED].
- State Compliance: Must complete Michigan LTC Fingerprinting during the onboarding/compliance stage.
