Medical Director – Correctional Medicine

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Medical Director – Correctional Health Services to provide clinical and operational leadership for a comprehensive correctional healthcare program in Dallas, Texas.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced physician to lead multidisciplinary medical services, support quality improvement initiatives, develop and mentor medical providers, and help deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to an underserved population.
Schedule:
- Full-time, approximately 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Monday–Friday.
- No weekends.
- No on-call requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate medical services within Correctional Health Services.
- Provide clinical leadership and oversight for adult and women's health services.
- Collaborate with behavioral health, nursing, specialty care, emergency services, and inpatient teams.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate physicians and advanced practice providers.
- Serve as supervising physician for advanced practice providers.
- Support physician recruitment, retention, professional development, and performance.
- Develop, implement, and monitor clinical policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Lead quality management and performance improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve clinical workflows, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
- Monitor compliance with applicable healthcare laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Develop and monitor departmental goals, objectives, and budgets.
- Provide medical education and training to residents, students, and advanced practice providers.
- Maintain effective relationships with healthcare professionals, correctional leadership, hospitals, vendors, patients, and families.
- Stay current with medical advancements and incorporate appropriate developments into clinical practice.
- Promote patient-centered care, effective communication, respect, and professionalism.
- Collaborate across disciplines to achieve organizational and clinical goals.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree.
- Completion of an ACGME- or AMA-approved residency – REQUIRED.
- Board Eligible or Board Certified in an appropriate specialty – REQUIRED.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical medicine management experience – REQUIRED.
- Previous correctional healthcare experience – REQUIRED.
- Active Texas Medical License or willingness to obtain within 180 days – REQUIRED.
- Demonstrated physician leadership and clinical management experience.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and team-building skills.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
- Ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain medical teams.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- At least one professional reference from within the past 24 months – REQUIRED.
- Most recent NPDB Self-Query Report within 30 days – REQUIRED at presentation.
- Clean malpractice and medical license history – HIGHLY PREFERRED.
- Spanish proficiency – HIGHLY PREFERRED.
