Schedule & Contract Terms:

  • Shift Schedule: Afternoon Shift | 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM (10-hour daily shifts).
  • Guaranteed Hours: Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week.
  • Weekend Requirements: Weekend rotations [REQUIRED].
  • On-Call Requirements: None.
  • Dress Code: Solid color matching scrubs.

Role Overview:
Seeking a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) for a temporary contract position in Lapeer, MI. The MLS collects, prepares, and analyzes blood and bodily fluid specimens, processes laboratory tests, enters data into the laboratory information system, and maintains equipment in compliance with quality control protocols and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities & Clinical Scope:

  • Specimen Collection & Phlebotomy: Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to collect blood samples using safe, sterile techniques; verify patient identification, label vials, and match requisitions.
  • Specimen Processing & Biohazard Safety: Process blood and other biohazard fluids/tissue according to standard operating procedures; dispose of biohazards and contaminated sharps in accordance with safety laws and protocols.
  • Laboratory Testing & Equipment: Operate, calibrate, and assist with designated laboratory equipment (including Grifols and Siemens instrumentation) and maintain clinical records under quality control standards.
  • Laboratory Information System (LIS): Enter patient demographics, specimen tracking, insurance, and billing data into LIS/EHR platforms accurately.
  • Infection Control & Environment: Maintain clean, sterile work areas and organize blood-drawing supplies in compliance with hazardous waste and infection control guidelines.

Qualifications & Candidate Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years of dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience [REQUIRED].
  • Experience operating Grifols and Siemens laboratory equipment [PREFERRED].
  • Prior travel contract experience [PREFERRED].

Certifications & Credentials:

  • Active ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Certification [REQUIRED].
  • Active BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross [REQUIRED].
