Job Title: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) / Advanced Practice Provider – Level III NICU
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant with specialized neonatal expertise to join our inpatient Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team. In this role, you will deliver advanced bedside clinical care, perform procedural interventions, and manage critically ill neonates under physician supervision.
Working within a collaborative inpatient model using Epic EMR, you will cover 12-hour day or night shifts, managing an average patient load of 10 to 12 neonates per provider while responding to high-risk delivery room resuscitations.
Key Responsibilities & Clinical Scope
Direct Neonatal Patient Care
- Inpatient Management: Manage a daily caseload of 10–12 Level III NICU patients, conducting daily rounds, evaluating clinical progress, and documenting care in Epic EMR.
- Delivery Room Attendance: Attend high-risk deliveries and provide immediate neonatal assessment, stabilization, and critical care management.
- Physician Collaboration: Work closely under the supervision of attending neonatologists in an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) model.
Procedural Expectations
- Resuscitation: Execute rapid neonatal resuscitation according to advanced NRP guidelines.
- Vascular Access: Perform central line placements, including PICC line and umbilical line (UVC/UAC) insertions.
- Chest & Airway Procedures: Perform diagnostic/therapeutic needle aspirations and chest tube placements for acute respiratory compromises.
Schedule & Assignment Details
- Shift Structure: 12-Hour Shifts (Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM / Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Coverage Need: Ongoing inpatient coverage
- EMR Platform: Epic
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
Education, Licensure & Credentials
- Board Certification: Active National Board Certification as an NNP or Advanced Practice Provider (NCC, ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA) [Required].
- State Licensure: Active, unrestricted State License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse / Nurse Practitioner [Required].
- Advanced Life Support: Active Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced Provider or Instructor certification [Required].
Experience & Attributes
- Clinical Experience: Verifiable experience managing acute neonates in a Level III NICU setting [Required — New graduates are not eligible].
- Procedural Competency: Hands-on proficiency in delivery room attendance, umbilical line insertion, PICC line placement, and chest tube management [Required].
