Job Title: Inpatient Phlebotomist – Overnight Shift
Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable, high-performing Inpatient Phlebotomist to join our laboratory team on the overnight shift (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM). In this critical role, you will be responsible for performing precise venipuncture and capillary blood collections for patients across all age groups. This fast-paced position requires an individual who can work independently, accurately prioritize draw requests between the Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient floors, and ensure flawless bedside labeling and patient identification.
Position & Shift Details:
  • Shift Schedule: Overnight, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM.
  • Weekend Requirements: Mandatory alternating, rotating weekend coverage.
  • Holiday Commitment: Holiday coverage is required. Assignment schedules will distribute major holidays (such as Independence Day and Labor Day) evenly across available contract staff to ensure balanced scheduling.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience & Clinical Skills:
  • Hospital Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of recent, full-time hospital-based phlebotomy experience [Required].
  • Clinical Collections: Complete technical proficiency in advanced venipuncture and capillary collection methods across all age demographics [Required].
  • Autonomy: Proven ability to manage high-volume draws independently in a demanding overnight setting [Required].
  • Cross-Training: Full flexibility to float fluidly between the Emergency Department (ED) and various acute inpatient units [Required].
Preferred Credentials:
  • Certification: Active National Phlebotomy Certification from an accredited body is highly preferred.
  • Specialty Experience: Prior clinical experience working within a high-volume Emergency Department (ED) setting is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Specimen Collection: Perform safe, accurate, and age-appropriate venipuncture and capillary blood collections on inpatient floors and specialized acute areas.
  • Prioritization: Monitor incoming laboratory orders, dynamically prioritizing urgent collection needs in the Emergency Department (ED) and critical inpatient units.
  • Patient Safety & Identification: Strictly enforce positive patient identification protocols and perform meticulous, real-time specimen labeling directly at the patient's bedside to prevent health errors.
  • Logistics & Handling: Securely handle, log, and transport sensitive medical specimens to the central processing laboratory in strict compliance with infection control and chemical safety policies.
  • Clinical Communication: Maintain proactive, highly professional verbal and digital communication with nursing leadership and laboratory technicians regarding critical values, draw delays, or specific processing issues.
