Position Summary:
A healthcare facility in the Coos Bay, OR area is seeking a temporary Behavioral Health Registered Nurse for day-shift coverage. Operating within the scope of practice defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing, the RN applies the nursing process to deliver direct patient care, maintain a safe therapeutic milieu, participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, and document clinical progress.
Core Responsibilities:
- Clinical Assessment & Care Planning: Conduct physical, psychosocial, cultural, and age-specific assessments. Formulate, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Milieu & Patient Management: Maintain a safe, therapeutic unit milieu. Observe patient interactions, participate in unit group activities, and assist with crisis intervention and emergency response.
- Medication & Treatment Administration: Safely administer medications, perform skin/wound care, manage pain protocols, and operate biomedical equipment (infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, automated medication cabinets).
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in treatment team meetings, coordinate care with physicians and therapists, and delegate/supervise unlicensed assistive personnel as needed.
- Documentation & Patient Education: Provide concise, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and wellness promotion.
Candidate Submission & Qualification Requirements:
Clinical Experience & Skills:
- Psychiatric Experience: Minimum 1 year of inpatient psychiatric nursing experience [REQUIRED].
- Recent Hospital Experience: Acute care/hospital-based nursing experience within the past 5 years [REQUIRED].
- Core Competencies: Proficient in EMR documentation, critical thinking, crisis response, and therapeutic communication.
Licensure & Certifications:
- State Licensure: Active Oregon RN License or willingness to obtain prior to start [REQUIRED].
- Certifications: Active BLS and CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certifications, or willingness to obtain prior to start [REQUIRED].
