Job Title: Inpatient & Infusion Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) to join our health system's inpatient pharmacy team. Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, you will perform sterile intravenous admixtures, hazardous drug compounding, non-sterile formulations, and medication distribution to support inpatient and infusion therapy operations.
This role requires strict adherence to USP <797> sterile compounding standards, USP <800> hazardous drug handling protocols, and USP <795> non-sterile compounding guidelines using state-of-the-art Closed System Transfer Devices (CSTDs).

Key Responsibilities

Sterile & Hazardous Compounding

  • IV & Chemotherapy Preparation: Prepare complex intravenous admixtures, antineoplastic agents, investigational drugs, and parenteral nutrition in full compliance with USP <797> and USP <800> standards.
  • CSTD Utilization: Utilize closed system transfer devices to ensure personnel safety and environmental containment during hazardous medication handling.
  • Non-Sterile Compounding: Prepare non-sterile oral liquids, topicals, and specialty formulations in accordance with USP <795> guidelines.
  • Investigational Protocols: Follow investigational study protocols for medication preparation, maintaining accurate inventory logs and preparation stability records.

Pharmacy Operations & Outpatient Support

  • Inventory & Quality Assurance: Assist with medication stock maintenance, physical inspections, cleanroom environmental monitoring, and automated dispensing machine replenishment.
  • Order Processing: Electronically process prescription orders, process third-party claims, and prepare dispenses for final pharmacist verification as needed.
  • Pharmacy Informatics: Maintain accuracy across department pharmacy management software and hardware systems.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Certifications & Licensure

  • National Certification: Active Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) [Required — NCCT not accepted].
  • Life Support Certification: Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) [Required].

Clinical Experience & Skills

  • Pharmacy Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of current pharmacy technician experience in an acute care hospital or high-volume infusion center [Required].
  • Compounding Proficiency: High degree of technical proficiency in sterile IV compounding, aseptic technique, and chemotherapy compounding [Required].
  • System Operations: Proficient in electronic health records, automated dispensing cabinets, and cleanroom safety equipment.

Schedule & Position Details

  • Role Type: Full-Time Contract / Travel Assignment
  • Shift Schedule: Standard acute care shifts; scheduling flexibility required.
  • On-Call Expectations: Rotating call coverage as assigned.
