Job Title: Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician (Allied Health)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly motivated Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician to join our busy surgical services department. In this vital role, you will be responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing surgical instruments and medical equipment.
Operating in a highly team-oriented, fast-paced environment supporting 16 state-of-the-art operating rooms, you must be capable of working independently to ensure sterile compliance and patient safety.
Department & Facility Highlights:
- Active Surgical Environment: Supporting a 16-room Operating Room suite, including coverage for Labor & Delivery C-sections.
- Daily Volume: Averaging approximately 50 surgical procedures per day.
- Diverse Service Lines: Direct involvement with instruments for Neuro, Ortho, ENT, Thoracic, Vascular, General, and Gynecology procedures.
- Patient Population: Serving pediatric through adult demographics.
- Modern Systems: Utilizing EPIC EMR for operational tracking.
Key Responsibilities:
- Decontamination & Sterilization: Properly clean, decontaminate, sterilize, and assemble specialized surgical instrument trays and medical devices according to manufacturer instructions and established guidelines.
- Quality Assurance: Perform and document routine biological and chemical monitoring tests to verify the efficacy of sterilization equipment.
- Inventory Control: Inspect instrumentation for cleanliness, proper function, and wear; assemble surgical trays accurately using tracking systems.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with OR staff and circulating nurses to prioritize and deliver high-demand instrument pans in a timely manner.
- Physical Demands: Safely lift and transport heavy instrument pans and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Experience Baseline: Minimum of 2+ years of current, active experience as a Central Sterile Tech [Required].
- Travel Competency: Prior travel contract experience is preferred, though not essential.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Professional Certification: Active, verified certification through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA / formerly IAHCSMM) [Required at time of application].
- Life Support: Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) [Required].
Compliance & Health Screening:
- Drug Screening: Candidates must be able to complete and clear a comprehensive 14-panel drug screening within 24 hours of offer acceptance [Required].
- Health & Safety: COVID-19 vaccinations are strongly encouraged but not required for this assignment. Candidates must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
Planned Time Off (RTO) Policy:
- To ensure consistent clinical coverage, any planned time off (maximum of 5 days) must be requested and verified at the time of your initial application. The facility is unable to approve scheduling requests after submission.
- Candidates must be available to work New Year's Eve and New Year's Day if scheduled, but will not be required to work Christmas Day.
