Travel Pathology Assistant (PA) - Laboratory
We are seeking a highly skilled and independent Travel Pathology Assistant (PA) for a temporary contract assignment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the preparation, gross description, and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, as well as performing postmortem examinations under the medical direction of the Pathologists.
This is a fast-paced hospital environment requiring a professional who can operate with minimal supervision and hit the ground running.
Shift Details & Schedule:
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Commitment: Full-time hours every week as contracted until the designated assignment end date.
- Orientation: 0 hours non-billable orientation.
- Overtime / Holiday Multiplier: 1.25x
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general Pathologist’s Assistant duties with minimal supervision, maintaining standard turnaround time thresholds.
- Conduct macroscopic (gross) examination, inking, and dissection of surgical specimens ranging from small biopsies to large, complex resections.
- Review patient histories at the time of grossing and communicate professionally with clinicians regarding specimens when necessary.
- Assist with the processing of frozen section specimens and perform gross photography/photomicrographs for tumor conferences.
- Oversee the daily operation of the surgical pathology grossing room, including the workflow of technical assistants, specimen accessioning, and processing.
- Maintain adequate supply levels and troubleshoot laboratory instruments (such as the cryostat) between scheduled service appointments.
- Follow strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for specimen collection, labeling, processing, storage, handling, and reference lab testing.
Strict Candidate Requirements:
- Traveler Eligibility Rule: This is strictly a Traveler Assignment. Local candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of the facility will NOT be considered. Locum candidates cannot be considered for this need.
- Certification: Active and current (PA)ASCP certification is strictly required. Equivalent certifications will not be accepted.
- State Licensure: A valid, in-hand New York Pathology License is required at the time of application (facility will not pend licensure upon offer).
- Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of current Pathology Assistant experience.
- Clinical Competencies: Must be fully competent in independently performing frozen sections, grossing biopsies, and handling large, complex specimens.
- Education: Master’s Degree is preferred, but candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree will be reviewed.
- Transportation: Must have your own reliable vehicle for this assignment.
